Riot Games is the 4th best tech company to work for

Google and Apple may get all the attention when it comes to fun and unique work environments, but according to a newly published list of "25 Best Tech Companies to Work for in 2013," Riot Games, the studio behind League of Legends, is the cream of the crop.

Business Insider and Glassdoor.com teamed up to put together "a list of 25 tech companies whose own employees rate them most highly." The reviewers take into account culture, lifestyle, and what you can learn while there.

Riot Games placed 4th among the list of tech companies which included the likes of Google, Orbitz, Intel, LinkedIn, Adobe and Apple. And the League of Legends studio was better than all of them, receiving a company rating of 4.4 out of 5. Company CEO Brandon Beck had an even more impressive 100% approval rating by its employees.

*Note: "The report is based on at least 25 company reviews between 6/26/12-6/25/13 and at least 15 company reviews from 6/26/11-6/25/12. CEO approval ratings based on current CEOs with least 20 reviews between 6/26/12-6/25/13. (Company ratings based on a 5-point scale; 1.0=very dissatisfied, 3.0=OK, 5.0=very satisfied.)" — Business Insider

The list notes that Riot Games has a fully-stocked kitchen, flexible work hours, and a bright workspace. The company also "really values its employees and offers them the opportunity to grow and learn." While Riot scored really positive employee reviews, one specifically mentioned a "high turnover" due to the company's 'high standards."

"Riot's culture can leave a lot of people feeling down at times. They have a culture of comradely, but also a culture of high standards. As a result, people will get let go that you might have had a personal connection with," an employee said. The other two quotes were mostly positive with one calling it "the place to be" if you want to work on cutting-edge technology in gaming.

GameZone recently had a chance to check out Riot's office and can attest that it's a pretty damn cool place. Despite the laid back nature, Riot Games has been on the forefront of eSports with League of Legends. Looking to take eSports to the next level, the League of Legends season 3 finals will be held in the Staples Center; you know, the place where the Los Angeles Lakers play… just saying.
