#RIPTwitter trending as users reject proposed timeline changes

Users blast potential update as comparisons to Facebook unearth once more

Angered Twitter users have started an emphatic trend on the service today in response to a reported change to their timeline system.

A report from BuzzFeed suggests that Twitter will introduce a new algorithm that will try to predict the type of content that users want to read and position such tweets higher on the timeline as a result. Moreover, the original chronological timeline that Twitter has had so much success with could be scrapped.

This tweak could come into effect as early as next week and is proving to be a lightning rod for public opinion – with comparisons to Facebook very much at the forefront of the criticism.

As of now it is still unknown whether or not Twitter will force this algorithmic tool upon all users or offer it merely a side option; after all, this could be a move to attract more Facebook users to their service.
