Riri Williams won’t be called Iron Man when she takes over for Tony Stark

Say hello to Ironheart.

Back in July, we got our first in-depth look at the new Iron Man, Riri Williams. This November, we will see Tony Stark take a break from being Iron Man and have Riri taking up the role of saving people while dressed up in an iron suit.

The change in who will be in the suit has caused a bit of unrest in the community, but the latest news should help ease the tension. According to writer Brian Michael Bendis Riri won't be taking the title of Iron Man away from Tony, instead, she will be getting her own name: Ironheart.

“Iron Woman seemed old fashioned to some, Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare. And Ironheart, coined by Joe Quesada, after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole. Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related. When people see her story, you’ll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe’s suggestion was.”

While Tony might not be featured as much in the upcoming comic, his personality will be. Marvel Senior VP of Publishing Tom Brevoor has revealed that Tony's personality will be the base of Riri's Ironheart suit's AI.
