Bringing in the new year strong, Xbox Wire announced a pretty serious sales milestone. Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and the newly released Halo 5: Guardians have all sold over one million copies each.
“2015 was a monumental year for Xbox – the biggest in our history – and we owe it all to our gaming community. We saw record global engagement and sales fueled by high demand for our greatest games line-up and hardware and accessories like the best-selling Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle and our Elite Controller. Every title in our exclusive 2015 holiday games line-up – Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6 and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition – sold over 1 million units, and the number of Xbox One gamers who played Microsoft Studios-published titles more than doubled compared to 2014.”
With Holiday sales adding to the collective numbers, it should come as no surprise that some of the bigger titles reached such a monumental goal. However, it's the games with a previous generational stigma attached, such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, that have the company patting themselves on the back. As an Xbox One early-release exclusive, Rise of the Tomb Raider was released a whole year before its competitive console, the PlayStation 4. The newest installment in the Tomb Raider franchise is slated for release on the PlayStation 4 and PC sometime around the Holidays next year.
As for Xbox, they plan to build on the holiday success with another impressive lineup of exclusives.
