The speculation can stop, Square Enix has finally announced the release date for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Based on retailer listings, we figured the action-packed sequel would launch this month, and now we have confirmation that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be available for Windows 10 and Steam on January 28, 2016. Unfortunately, we still don't have a date for the PlayStation version.
“The PC release of Rise of the Tomb Raider continues the positive momentum from our highly successful partnership and collaboration with Microsoft for the launch on Xbox One and Xbox 360,” said Scot Amos, co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. Yesterday, Microsoft announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, along with a number of other Xbox One exclusives, has sold over one million copies since launch.
“PC players are a passionate, devoted audience and we know they’ll embrace the version created for their systems,” added Ron Rosenberg, co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics.
Set after the events of Crystal Dynamics' first Tomb Raider (a series reboot), Lara Croft’s experience of the supernatural on Yamatai has been covered up by the Trinity organization. In order to prove she’s not insane, Croft sets out to find the truth behind myths around the world, and searches Siberia for the ancient city Kitezh, which she believes holds some truth behind immortality.
The PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider will be available as a digital download via Steam, the Windows Store, Amazon, the Square Enix store, and other major retailers. A Digital Deluxe edition for $89.99 will also be available, giving owners access to all of the Season Pass DLC as its released.
For PlayStation owners, Rise of the Tomb Raider isn't expected to release on PS4 until later this year.
