Rise of the Tomb Raider director joins Insomniac’s Spider-Man as design director

One of Sony’s biggest exclusives going into the new year is the release of Insomniac’s Spider-Man game. Marvel’s golden boy will be getting an all-new game that isn’t shackled by the release of an upcoming movie, it’ll be a high-budget game crafted by some of the most talented people in the industry.

A lot is riding on this game so Insomniac has hired another talented individual, the game director on Rise of the Tomb Raider and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare art director Brian Horton. Horton will join the company on January 1st, 2018 as a design director on Spider-Man.

A design director is similar to a creative director, they help oversee the project and steer it in a specific direction by providing feedback. Some may be concerned that a game scheduled to launch in the first half of 2018 is having such a major changing of the guard but it’s likely Horton is coming into help work on DLC after the game ships or Insomniac is preparing for their other directors to leave after they finish the game (something that is common in the games industry).

Spider-Man has no release date but Sony said at E3 that the game is scheduled to launch before June 2018. It’s hard to say if they’ll hit that date as they have six months to announce a date and hit it, hopefully, Brian Horton can make sure the project hits its current release window.
