Rivals of Aether sees new character revealed at E3

Upcoming Smash Bros.-inspired brawler Rivals of Aether will be coming to Xbox One later this year, but at E3 this week, the game saw a new character revealed.

Maypul, the Sylvan Watcher, enters the battle as an earth based elemental in an effort to see who is the strongest. Rivals will feature eight characters at launch comprised of earth, air, fire and water elementals. Two characters will represent each elemental with the possibility of adding more characters post launch.

Rivals of Aether developer Dan Fornace has worked on games like Killer Instinct and Super Smash Land in the past and drew inspiration for the game from Super Smash Bros' platforming set up. Maypul is the self appointed guardian of the forest and defends her home from any perceived threats. Some of her abilities include:

WATCHER'S MARK – Maypul can use her Seeds or her Watcher's Dash to mark opponents, making them susceptible to her following attacks.

WRAPPED UP – After marking her targets, Maypul can use her Strong Attacks or her trusty Plant to wrap marked opponents in place allowing her to follow up with another attack.

SLING SHOT – Maypul can use her vines to sling toward marked opponents, allowing her to elude attacks and quickly close distances

Rivals of Aether is set to arrive on Xbox One via the ID@Xbox publishing program by the end of 2015.
