There's good news and bad news.
First, the good: Two Tribes promises that RIVE, which now has a launch window of September 2016, will be the best game they've made in their company's history. Great!
Now for the bad: RIVE will be Two Tribes' last. What?
The upsetting news was announced today on Two Tribes' website, where they mentioned struggles to keep pace with industry developments as part of the reason for their departure from the games industry.
Two Tribes is best known for Toki Tori, but they also made obscure puzzle game Frenzic for DSiWare, RUSH, Swords & Soldiers HD, and Edge. Toki Tori 2 (which recently released on PS4) is the game RIVE needs to overcome for the title of "best work to date," but it was also a commercial failure and the company has been attempting to recover ever since.
Even though Two Tribes isn't formally closing and will continue supporting their partners, the sad reality is that the indie game scene is losing an accomplished player.
