The COO of Minecraft's development studio Mojang, Vu Bui, took to Twitter to reveal that Rob McElhenney is officially the director of the Minecraft movie. McElhenney might be a bit new to film directing, but he has built a great repertoire with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Mc Elhenney is the co-creator, writer, actor (he's the amazing Mac) and director of several episodes in the popular TV series. He is currently developing a film at Legendary pictures titled Figment and directed the FX pilot for Pariah.
There's little known about the Minecraft movie, but the game itself has over 100 million users across a number of platforms. If the name didn't give it away, the movie will be based on the popular game. Roy Lee, producer of The Lego Movie will be producing the film along with Jill Messick. Warner Bros.' executive Jon Berg will oversee the 'live-action' project for the studio.
Now if we could get a little more information on this movie, that would be great.
