Robert Morris University becomes first college to offer League of Legends gaming scholarship

As Riot Games continues to grow its League of Legends Collegiate Program, one school, Robert Morris University Illinois (RMU), is doing what it can to attract some of the best college players available. That includes adding League of Legends to its athletic program and building a varsity team to compete in next year's North American Collegiate Championship.

As a recognized athletic program, the RMU League of Legends team will receive the same benefits as other RMU athletes, such as coaching, staff support, tutoring, and even scholarships of up to 50 percent tuition and 50 percent room and board. Damn, where was this sort of thing when I was in school?

"Robert Morris University has always been at the forefront of providing opportunities for a diverse student population with different interests and skills.  League of Legends is a competitive, challenging game which requires significant amount of teamwork to be successful,' said Kurt Melcher, RMU's Associate Athletic Director.

RMU is currently in the process of recruiting students for the first year of competition, beginning with the fall quarter in September 2014. The school's League of Legends team will be made up of one varsity team and two practice teams. RMU will be a part of the Collegiate Star League where the school will compete with Arizona State, George Washington and Harvard among others.
