Rock Band 4 dated for October release

Earlier this month, Harmonix rocked (sorry) the world when they announced Rock Band 4 for Xbox One and PS4. Speaking in the latest issue of UK games industry magazine MCV, product manager Eric Pope shed some light on the eagerly awaited rocking simulator.

For starters Rock Band 4 will be 1080p and will run at 60 frames per second, Pope confirmed. "I know there's a vocal group of players that want to hear that. But what to me is more exciting is the online infrastructure of the consoles. It will open a lot [of] opportunities for us to support the game in more reactive, timely ways," he said, adding that Harmonix had "built a brand new engine" for the game to "make the most of the new hardware."

"It's going to look 'next-gen' with more realistic lighting, character models, and animation," he added.

As for the release date, MCV stated in a separate article in the magazine that Rock Band 4 "is now set to return this October." The magazine also mentions "widespread reports" of Guitar Hero returning.

For their part, Harmonix has yet to formally confirm a release date beyond the 2015 window.
