Rocket League creator has ‘figured out’ PS4/Xbox One cross-play

Rocket League will be among the first games to make use of Xbox’s newly announced cross-network play with Windows 10 PCs, and according to developer Psyonix Studios, it's ready to be the frontrunner for PS4 and Xbox One cross-play.

“The only thing we have to do now is sort of find out where we stand politically with everyone, and then it’s full steam ahead to finish the solution that we’ve already started,” Pysonix Vice President Jeremy Dunham told GameSpot.

And where does everyone sit on the matter? Sony addressed Microsoft’s cross-platform offer with vague agreeability, saying they “would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross-platform play.”

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida later added that connecting consoles together is far more complicated than connecting with PCs, and that “the technical aspect” would affect cross-platform play between PS4 and Xbox One.

Psyonix isn’t so sure.

“Technologically everything works, we’ve got it figured out, just a little bit of time to get everything up and running,” Dunham continued. “We just want to get in there and make it happen. Elation is probably another word I would use. We’re just excited.”

Excited is probably the word for everyone, considering console players have been clamoring for cross-platform multiplayer for years. Sony, Microsoft, play nice and make it happen. You're both running on x86 architecture; no more compatibility excuses.
