Rocket League is coming to China as a free-to-play title

Rocket League has made quite the impact since it debuted in July of 2015, and while it has reached the hands of many gamers across the world, it has yet to come to one of the world's burgeoning gamer markets, China. That is about to change according to a press release developer Psyonix sent out earlier today, announcing a partnership with Tencent Holdings Limited, which will bring the game to Chinese gamers.

The Chinese version of Rocket League will maintain all of the game's core features but will be free-to-play with microtransactions. This is a pretty standard format for games over in China, so it makes sense that Psyonix would elect to make this change. There will be further changes announced in the future by Tencent, and you can check them out here.

Rocket League has proven to be incredibly popular over the last two years, with gamers across all platforms accruing over 1 billion total matches played. That number is about to escalate, and fast.
