Rocket League will be getting a televised eSports tournament on NBC Sports

Televised eSports are slowly but surely becoming a thing. Games like Heroes of the Storm, Counter-Strike, and Injustice 2 have all made public TV appearances in the past drawing criticism from ex-ESPN analyst, Colin Cowherd. Regardless of how you feel about them, NBC Sports has decided that there is a big enough market for it, and has entered an agreement with FACEIT and developer Psyonix to broadcast a 2v2 Rocket League tournament that will feature a $100,000 prize pool.

The game will be played on FACEIT, which is one of the world's largest competitive gaming platforms as competition begins next month on July 22nd. Psyonix's Head of eSports, Josh Watson had this to say:

"Our Rocket League esports ecosystem is thriving and we are excited to expand to the NBC Sports audience. Rocket League is an easy-to-understand game, which makes it the perfect introduction to esports for fans of all backgrounds and ages."

The Regional Finals of the Rocket League tournament will be going down on the weekends of August 5-6 and August 12-13 and will be live-streamed on both the NBC Sports and Telemundo En Vivo apps as well as other social media platforms. The Grand Finals will take place at the end of August from the 26th-27th, which will feature 16 teams competing for the $100K prize pool.

If there's any game that can push eSports into a wider audience, it's Rocket League.
