Rocket Racoon’s “Horrible” Origin Story in the MCU Will be Revealed Soon

Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2 were box office hits. The second movie particularly made fans feel like they knew the motley crew of the Guardians particularly well. But according to James Gunn, we're going to learn a lot more about them. In particular: we're going to learn about Rocket's sad history and it's not going to be completely similar to his comic origins.

Speaking as HasCon (MCU Exchange) Gunn said, "We are going to learn more about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas. It’s going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about from where he came from. It’s a little bit more horrible than what it is in the comics when you come down to it.”

In the comics, Rocket's origin story involves experimentation with the goal of creating hybrid animals that look after mentally ill patients on an abandoned colony. Grim right? According to Gunn, his MCU origin is going to be worse.

His implication on "coming sagas" most likely point to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 becoming a thing, but with the Guardian's planned inclusion in Avengers: Infinity War, we may learn a bit about Rocket among the dozens of other heroes slated for the film.

Avengers: Infinity War is slated sometime in 2018.
