Rockstar Games today released a new video giving players a first look at the multiplayer gameplay component in Max Payne 3.
While we've already heard details surrounding two of Max Payne 3's multiplayer game modes (Gang Wars and Payne Killer), this video gives us a look at the in-game action.
As the video notes, Rockstar Games is attempting to bring Max Payne 3's combination of "highly responsive and cinematic shooting action" to multiplayer. Of course, Rockstar had to overcome a series of obstacles like of incorporating the franchise's signature "Bullet Time". When this ability is activated, time slows, allowing players to target enemies and dodge oncoming bullets. To solve this challenge, only players in your line of sight will enter Bullet Time. More abilities will be revealed "soon".
In the video, you'll also see two modes in Max Payne 3's multiplayer: Gang Wars and Payne Killer.
"Gang Wars" allows up to 16 players to compete in a team-based sequence of story-based scenarios and inclusive matches. Each segment continues the events of the last for a total of five rounds. Objectives change based on the outcome of earlier scenarios.
"Payne Killer" allows two players to fill in as Max and his buddy Raul Passos as they face off against six other players. Sounds fierce. Payne starts out with his iconic dual-wield uzis while Passos is equipped with a high-powered RPD assault rifle. The two main characters also have more health than the enemy players to balance out the sides.
Last week, Rockstar Games revealed their plan to innovate multiplayer gameplay across all of its titles through multiplayer crews. The crews, or groups of players formed to play online together, that you join in Max Payne 3 will carry over to Grand Theft Auto 5.
Max Payne 3 releases on May 15th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
