The day has finally arrived, Red Dead Online is officially available now for Ultimate Edition owners and in a matter of hours for those who bought the game on launch day. Up until now, Rockstar has been quiet about what exactly the mode contains but they’ve finally unveiled everything the mode has to offer in its current state.
Red Dead Online will begin as a beta that grows over time with new content, fixes to any issues you may encounter, and evolve into something likely as large, if not larger than GTA Online.
Today, you’ll be able to load into the 32 players online mode and posse up with up to six friends. You can then ride out into the American frontier to hunt, fish, rob stagecoaches, battle other players, and take on a variety of missions.
Some of the missions have a narrative attached to them, allowing you to follow characters from the main game on a number of quests. These co-op missions will also provide you with moral dilemmas such as the ability to kill or spare certain people, take in wanted bounties or set them free for greater wealth, and more. These choices you make will affect your honor in Red Dead Online which impacts how the world responds to you and the missions available to you.
There are also stranger missions set within the larger open world that have you escorting convoys amongst other things depending on your honor, these specific missions will allow others in the open world to come and interfere if they please for their own benefit.
Red Dead Online also features horse races and other traditional competitive game modes such as fun takes on deathmatch and objective based game modes. You can view a full breakdown of the modes below.
Shootout & Team Shootout
Classic gunfight modes with unlimited lives. Compete to rack up the most kills before the timer runs out. Sudden death will trigger in the event of a tie: whoever gets the first kill wins.
Make it Count
A true test of resourcefulness in two game modes: use nothing but a bow and a handful of arrows or throwing knives to be the last one standing. With a gradually shrinking player area, there’s nowhere to run.
Most Wanted
A tactical race to the top. Every kill pushes you up the scoreboard, but watch out: the closer to the top you are, the more points everyone else gets for killing you.
Hostile Territory
Work in teams to control the land. Capture a territory to start racking up points: the team with most points wins – or you can win outright by capturing every territory.
Name your Weapon
Demonstrate your personal specialty in this free-for-all or team based match: the trickier the weapon you use to land the killing blow, the more points you get.
Rockstar Games is also seeking your help in improving Red Dead Online via a feedback form in addition to reporting bugs and glitches. You can make suggestions such as changes to things already in the game, future additions you’d like to see, and more. You can click here to visit the feedback site.
Red Dead Online’s rollout will continue throughout the week until Friday based on when you got your copy/which version you bought. You can view the dates for the rollout below.
