Rockstar never ‘seriously’ considered PC version of Red Dead Redemption

Back in 2010 Red Dead Redemption released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which was much to the dismay of PC owners as the game never made a release on their gaming platform of choice. It turns out that Rockstar never 'seriously' considered a PC version for Red Dead Redemption.

During a Twitch livestream, Kris Roberts, a former Rockstar employee that had acted as Red Dead Redemption’s lead multiplayer designer spoke on the subject of a PC release for Red Dead.

“I don’t think there was ever an intention to have a PC version of Red Dead Redemption,” said Roberts. “I was actually super shocked that they did a PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5.” Interestingly enough, GTA V did fairly well in PC sales with over 75% of GTA V purchases being on the PC. The fact that Red Dead never hit the PC is a shame – the series could have had a bigger impact for Rockstar — the money those sales brought in could have brought about a sequel by now.

“To the best of my recollection, we never even seriously talked about optimizing it for PC.”
