Rockstar: L.A. Noire Open World, MotionScan Details

A couple of Rockstar and Team Bondi employees answered some fan questions relating to their upcoming 1940s adventure game L.A. Noire on IGN. The interview is pretty informative, and details are given in regards to the game’s film noir inspirations and interrogation gameplay. Additionally, the game’s world is discussed as is the MotionScan technology being utilized by Rockstar and Team Bondi.

In terms of L.A. Noire’s world, Rockstar VP of Product Development Jeronimo Barrera said, “The world is completely open for you to travel through at all times, but the focus of the game is not the same as Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption.” He stated that events that require your attention such as robberies do occur within the city, but made it clear that Los Angeles is more of a “backdrop” for your adventure.

When asked if MotionScan technology will be seen in future Rockstar titles, Barrera said that while the technology is impressive, it won’t necessarily “work for every game.” He mentioned that use of MotionScan technology “will depend on the project.”

L.A. Noire is a step in a different direction for Rockstar Games. If you want to know more about the game, check out the full Q&A.
