Last August, Rod Fergusson announced a bold move: leaving behind a Gears of War series that has had his footprints all over from the beginning for Boston-area developer Irrational Games, and namely, their blockbuster BioShock Infinite. Today, Fergusson has announced yet another surprisingly change in that he’s moving on from Irrational and the BioShock name.
Though this is indeed somewhat unpredicted, Fergusson was explicitly brought in from EPIC Games as a “closer” for Infinite under the job title, Executive Vice President of Development. With the game on store shelves, Fergusson’s duties likely aren’t as of a necessity, leading to today’s announcement. Fergusson touched on his departure from Irrational today in an email, though he did not specify where his duties would be brought to next:
"I am very proud of the work that I did and of the team and what they were able to accomplish on Infinite," Fergusson said in an email. "Now with the game shipped successfully, I've done what I set out to do here and now I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life and career."
With this news item fresh, we want to raise a somewhat “Irrational” question, though nothing is impossible: If you could see Fergusson go to any of the games/series’ developers from the THQ fallout, where would that be? Let us know your ideas and why below.
