Indie developer Cellar Door Games has announced the early access release date for their highly-anticipated rouge-lite platformer Rogue Legacy 2. After exactly one month, PC gamers will be able to experience the sequel to one of the most beloved indie games on Steam and Epic Games Store. Watch the new trailer here!
Back in 2013, when the first Rogue Legacy came out, the gaming scene was entirely different. The entire Indie genre was still very much in its infancy and it was thanks to standout hits like Rogue Legacy, Spelunky, and co. to basically establish a very new set of games for people to enjoy.
Rogue Legacy 2 is a genealogical rogue-LITE. That means it has all the trappings of a typical rogue-like (randomized runs, changing characters, and more), but with persistent upgrades, and persistent dead heirs. In this game, your legacy defines you. Spend your parents’ inheritance and grow the family manor to give your children a better fighting chance. Each child is unique, with their own traits and abilities. Your daughter could be an archer. She could also be a Vegan. Rogue Legacy 2 also lets you play how you want to. Go hard and fast, and you can dive deeper into the depths of a randomly-generated world. Or take it slow and steady, and build your character up until you’re ready for greater challenges.
Its ingenious mix of difficult action-platforming with randomly generated playthrough led to practically a never-ending experience. Unlike many other roguelites, not only do the levels change with every run but the player character itself offered new traits to choose from thanks to a brilliant inheritance mechanic.
Rogue Legacy 2 is continuing this winning formula of diverse variety with a good dose of permanent unlockable upgrades but takes the presentation to another level. Gone is the charming yet low-fi pixelated aesthetic in favor of razor-sharp comic art style that enables to present details like never before.
On top of visual changes, new weapons, enhanced trait mechanics, and revamped biome generation systems aim to improve an already all-time masterpiece. The developer is promising, even more, to come in the future, and that’s exactly why they decided to launch Rogue Legacy in Early Access. So, get ready for even more goodness down the road.
