Indie developer Hopoo Games has shadow-dropped the sequel for their 2013 indie hit Risk of Rain on Steam Early Access. Risk of Rain 2 is now available on PC for just $17.99. As a bonus incentive, user who buy the game until tomorrow will receive an extra free copy!
The first Risk of Rain hit the indie scene like a bomb six years ago. During the heyday of the indie game renascence, the 2D rouge-like action game became an instant smash success among PC gamers and went on to receive ports to the PlayStation 4, PS Vita and just recently the Nintendo Switch. Seeing the immense success the game amassed, it didn’t come as a big surprise when the developer announced the sequel Risk of Rain 2. That was two years ago and now, the game is actually available for purchase on Steam Early Access.
Contrary to many other sequels, Risk of Rain 2 has taken some drastic changes to the original formula. The most obvious change between the two games is no doubt the jump from 2D pixel art to full 3D. The sequel now plays as a third-person action game rather than a side-scroller. But the fundamentals are still present. The game has a heavy focus on action with randomized levels true to its roguelike origins.
There’s more to Risk of Rain 2 than just a new perspective however. New enemies, weapons, loot and characters are going to make the roguelike action game a meaty experience even for genre veterans. Another great addition is an easy co-op mode to enjoy the game together with friends. With a current Overwhelmingly Positive Steam User Review at the moment, it sure looks like Hopoo Games nailed the conversion of 2D to 3D.
Get the game until tomorrow 12PM PT and you’ll receive a free copy of Risk of Rain 2 to gift to a friend!
