Ron Perlman has been back and forth on the idea of starring in another Hellboy. He's urged fans to push for the third film, then he said he didn't really want to put all the makeup back on, and then Perlman said he wanted to complete the trilogy. Basically, his want for the film has outweighed the annoyance of being in the film.
While Perlman has been pushing for the film and even teasing its development, the movie isn't happening. In an interview with ScreenRant during New York Comic-Con, Perlman revealed that the Hellboy window had passed.
When asked if director Guillermo Del Toro would be teaming up with the big red guy for Hellboy 3, Perlman replied:
“We don’t talk about that anymore.”
When pushed on why it wasn't a subject of discussion, Perlman said:
“Because he’s busy, and I’m busy. Maybe one day he’s going to call and say, ‘Hey, let’s do it.’ But for right now? We’re happy discovering new worlds to conquer.”
The ball obviously isn't in Perlman's court. We can only hope that some Hollywood executive OK's Guillermo Del Toro's idea for Hellboy 3, until then, we will have to be happy with the two films we got.
