Rovio opens new game studio to make MMO’s based on new IP

Rovio, a game company known for the most famous game Angry Birds, has announced they are opening a new London based game studio to work on the development of MMO games.

The games will not be based on the Angry Birds franchise, but instead brand new IP's. "Our business is profitably growing and London is the most logical place for us to found a new studio that will complement our overall global mix of internal and external developers. London is also a fantastically diverse talent magnet.” says Antti Viitanen, SVP Studios.

We believe that the best game experiences are those that you share with other people,” adds Mark Sorrell, Head of Studio, “So we’re starting a studio to do exactly this. We look forward to bringing a diverse team together to deliver unique MMOs that are creative, inclusive and delightful.”

The studio looks to bring on about 20 new members over the next two years, and positions are currently open for anyone looking to apply. No word on what any of these IP's will be based on or whether they will be strictly mobile, but we're still in the infancy stage so more information is still to come.

What do you think of Rovio venturing into the world of MMO's? Let us know below.

Just a guy lucky enough to talk about games with you fine people. "Don't ever tell anybody anything, when you do, you start missing everybody".
