Anyone who appreciates the open-world genre should have played 2K's Mafia II. Plain and simple, it was is amazing game, even to this day. No, you couldn't explore the city like GTA, but the story was marvelous and 2K really grasped the gangster feel of the 50s. The well-liked series has been in jeopardy of receiving a third installment, though, with massive layoffs at 2K lately. A job listing on 2K Czech's website, though, may reveal that the developer is on the upswing, and that a third game is indeed in the works.
Connectedconsoles.com has reported a 2K Czech job listing for a senior game designer to "create designs for game systems and mechanics for the open world city environment." While this listing could be for a new IP, the application also asks that the applicant has shipped a triple-A game title with a Metacritic rating of at least 80.
Whether or not this is Mafia III or a new IP, 2K must be planning something big. If you're unfamiliar with the Mafia series, though, please, for the love of open-world games, play through them – at least Mafia II. If this is indeed Mafia III, with a little bit of improvements and marketing, 2K could have the next Saints Row: The Third on their hands. Lets just hope, anyway.
