Rumor: 3D Mario and Skyrim set for Nintendo Switch launch, Splatoon bundled

The latest Nintendo Switch rumor going the rounds comes from Let's Play Video Games, a source that has been accurate in the past about Nintendo Switch specs and claims to have inside sources at Nintendo. The claim is that a 3D Mario game, Skyrim, and Splatoon will be launch titles, with Splatoon bundled with the “premium” unit.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • 3D Mario will feature an open hub world in the vein of Super Mario 64, with a similar emphasis on exploring worlds instead of linear levels. There will be a co-op feature, but the players will be tethered so that players cannot go too far apart, and the weaker link won't hurt the other player's experience.
  • Skyrim will be the recent Special Edition release, and will feature some limited mod support post-release. Bethesda refuses to admit to the game's existence because they don't want to hurt sales via people opting to wait for the portable version.
  • Splatoon may possibly be bundled with the system at launch. This upgraded port will feature new equipment, hair styles, and single player content. There's also going to be an updated 1v1 local co-op mode, played on separate Switches, where players can switch weapons on the fly. There will be free content updates to the game, similar to the Wii U release.
  • Unfortunately, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be delayed past March.

Again, this is all rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully it's all true, especially Skyrim. The Switch needs to flex its little muscles, and a portable game of that size would amaze quite a few people. For me, having large games on the go makes me more likely to play them, so maybe I'll finally tackle Skyrim.
