Rumor: Apple to launch new iPod models today

It's been a while since Apple upgraded its iPod lineup, but it's looking like Apple is preparing to release revamped iPod models with new features and hardware. This upgrade won't only be coming to Apple's golden child, the iPod Touch, it will also be coming to the iPod Nano and Shuffle.

According to 9to5Mac, all three iPod versions will come in new dark blue and pink colors, as well as a new gold option.

The iPod touch will be seeing the most upgrades with the revamp:

  • Major camera upgrade from 5 megapixels to 8, matching the count on the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2.
  • New 64-bit chip for faster operation and better graphics for gaming. Will also help it plow through future iOS versions beyond iOS 9.
  • “M” chip from the iPhone for fitness, steps, and elevation tracking.
  • Pre-loaded with iOS 8.4 and Apple Music following the June 30th launch.
  • New 128GB model for $399, still starting at $199 for 16GB. There will also be a $299 model with 64GB of space.

Is this really happening today?

It's not confirmed, but it's beginning to look like it. Apple has taken down the online store – which is a pretty strong indication. On top of the store going down, iTunes version 12.2 revealed a new image for the iPods with the new colors. It could have been a mistake by the graphic design team, but version 12.1.2 indicated that the image was not a mistake at all.

It would be great if they announced the new lineup along with a crazy discount on Amazon with the Prime Day sale.
