Borderlands 2 is set to get a prequel for PC and last-gen systems, according to a new rumor from GamesPointNow. The site, which has become known for leaking each month's PlayStation Plus offerings, is reporting that 2K Australia, in conjunction with Gearbox Software, is currently developing a new installment in the popular co-op shooter/looter for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
The new game is believed to be set in between the events of Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2. You'll be able to choose between four of Handsome Jack's lieutenants: Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap, the last of which is a militarized version of Claptrap.
The game will follow a younger Handsome Jack, back in the day when he was just a programmer called John, as he hunts a powerful alien artifact. Events will take place on Pandora's moon Elpis, as well as in Hyperion's H-shaped base, which you may have seen orbiting the planet in Borderlands 2.
You can expect the usual assortment of weapon including two entirely new weapon types, one of which is the Cryo class of guns. And with the reduced gravity of the moon, you'll be equipped with jetpacks. Intertwined in the combat is a new resource you'll have to manage, Oxygen, which comes in the form of lootable OX-Kits.
No release date for the Borderlands 2 prequel was given, and 2K has offered "no comment" to the rumor. So for now, all we can really confirm is the episodic adventure from Telltale, Tales from the Borderlands, and the Vita port of Borderlands 2.
