In 2010, EA released a hack and slash title called Dante's Inferno developed by Visceral Games (known for Dead Space and Battlefield: Hardline). The game was based off a story titled "Inferno" and followed a man through his journey through Hell as he attempted to gain back the soul of his lover after Lucifer took it. The game featured intense boss battles and received fairly average reviews. Fans of the game have been asking for a sequel for many years but EA seemed to have forgotten all about the game.
Today, industry insider Shinobi602 reports that there was once a sequel to the game in development but at some point it was canceled. The game was to feature Assassin's Creed-like climbing mechanics, would follow Dante through purgatory (while still having some levels in Hell), and he would fight some angels as well! It's quite heartbreaking to hear about games we will never see but it's also cool to see what could've been! Yesterday, we also reported that EA had another sequel in development for another cult-classic, The Sabetour. You can view the tweets from Shinobi below.
Sad that Dante's Inferno 2 got cancelled. Was being developed as a grounded action adventure game than just a focus on hack n' slash.

This was a while ago too, not recent. 30FPS with much, much higher fidelity than 60FPS. Uncharted/Assassin's Creed climing type system. https://t.co/XFus4B0BQ6

Dante was going to basically go through all of Purgatory & some more bits of Hell. He was going to fight angels as well. https://t.co/VoRfudjgvq
