[Rumor] Deadpool 2’s director may have abandoned the project due to casting issues

Reynolds may have too much power.

This morning we reported that the sequel to Deadpool has lost its director due to "creative differences". At the time, we were unsure what exactly went down to cause the director to leave but now some new reports may shine some light on why director Tim Miller walked.

The Wrap is reporting that there are a few different reasons Miller decided to hit the trail. It appears that star Ryan Reynolds (who was a big player in getting the original film off the ground) negotiated to get a bigger paycheck for Deadpool 2 and even some creative control over the film. Miller wasn't too fond of this. Reynolds supposedly started to push for the film to be more of a comedy, focusing on the “self-referential satirical sensibilities.” Miller wanted to go in the direction of showing Deadpool's place in the X-Men universe and showing how bizarre his stories are compared to everyone else's. The two never came to much of an agreement but it doesn't stop there.

Cable was revealed to join the sequel in the post-credits scene for Deadpool but they hadn't cast him yet. Over the summer, various names were thrown into the discussion of who would play him. Some of the biggest candiadates were Friday Night Lights' Kyle Chandler and Avatar's Stephen Lang. Miller argued with Reynolds that Kyle Chandler was the best pick for the role but Ryan Reynolds wouldn't hear it.

Miller eventually departed after Fox took Reynolds' side. Reports say that Miller and Fox are still on good terms, but it sounds that Miller and Reynolds may not be as some reports say that the two didn't speak much to each other.

Miller will be heading up some other Fox projects such as the upcoming Influx but Deadpool 2 is left without a director at the moment. Is it possible that Renyolds could step into the directors chair for this one similar to what Ben Affleck is doing with The Batman? Reynolds has never directed a film before so this may be a large undertaking but it would certainly be interesting to see.

We will continue to keep you updated on the development of Deadpool 2 as we learn more.
