Rumor: Destiny 2 Forge of Hope release date and story details leaked, Guardians won’t transfer over

Destiny is a magnet for rumors and by that, we stress that the following is a rumor – not confirmed what so ever.

A Reddit user has posted what they claim to be some details about the upcoming sequel to Destiny, Destiny 2: Forge of Hope that is scheduled to release this year. The rumor details a number of items, including its story, release date, and character details. The latter, a rumor that cycled last year, might be the most disturbing to hardcore players as you will not be able to transfer your characters to the new version. Yikes.

"The next installment in the DESTINY franchise will be revealed as " Destiny II: Forge of Hope".
Will be launching in Q4 2017 with an estimated window release of November 4th to November 18th.
The next installment will be launching on five platforms: PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox Scorpio (TBA) and PC.

Console Exclusivity will remain with PlayStation but the exclusive period will be reduced to 3 Months.
The game has a whole new engine built from the ground up with the ability for Bungie to rapidly create and add new content to the world of Destiny.

Bungie is scheduling for an event release every 1-2 months centering around a theme similar to Overwatch while also delivering new narrative paths and new gameplay mechanics."

The new engine is always a solid addition, but the release date puts it right smack in the middle of the normal time for Call of Duty to release. This means that Activision would release both games at essentially the same time. Now, this isn't totally new as EA released both Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 within a week of each other last year, but Titanfall 2 sales were impacted greatly as a result.

As far as the story goes, it will take place after the latest expansion and focus on the following

"The sequel will heavily focus on chronological events set after the Fall 2015 Expansion The Taken King. The cabal forces attack the city leaving the civilians and mentors of the tower defenseless. It is the guardians' job to fight back the cabal and reclaim the city. While doing so the guardian will discover the long lost stories of Queen Mara Sov and The Exo Strangers motives. The story will culminate with the tower and city fighting back the Cabal empire resulting the guardian defeating the leader of the Cabal in the new Raid."

The main downfall is that since the game will be built on a new engine, that all character progression will be lost. This, of course, goes against everything Bungie has said since the start, including when Community Manager David Dague was quoted as such:

"The idea is that the Guardian you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they've had a relationship with the same character for a very long time."

That comes from an interview Dague did the day the Dark Below expansion released. Bungie is no stranger to doing something other than what they have said, such as microtransactions after saying there wouldn't be.

Again, we do not know if this is true yet as there hasn't been any rumblings other than this Reddit post, but it will be interesting to track. By all means Destiny has been a game of controversy but it has a gigantic player base. Casual players won't care, but hardcore players will surely be angry after spending hundreds if not thousands of hours in the game so far.

What do you guys think about Bungie and Activision with their handling of Destiny so far? Let us know in the comments.
