Studios close all the time, and usually it's pretty sad. Sometimes the best studios start lacking in their games and it shows their sales. They lose money, they can't afford to stay open, and then hundreds of people are out of jobs. It sucks for everyone because fans won't get to see games from some of their favorite franchises ever again, people have to search for jobs, and you have to watch the studio slowly crumble before the actual closure which is just as painful.
Today, rumors have started popping up that United Front Games is closing down. The studio responsible for the crime drama, Sleeping Dogs, has only been around for roughly 12 years and has been credited for helping develop games like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, and LittleBigPlanet Karting.
The studio has slowly been on the decline since they took the critically acclaimed Sleeping Dogs in an entirely different direction by making a free-to-play spin-off that was a PC only MMO titled Triad Wars. The spin-off was in beta for less than a year before being canceled entirely due to poor reception from fans.
The MMO ended up being a fatal mistake for United Front Games and was probably what led to their closure. It's always sad to see studios close, and while we don't have official confirmation on the legitimacy of these rumors, it's safe to assume it is true based off the number of reports coming out. If indeed true, GameZone wishes the best for all those affected by the closure of United Front Games.
