Nintendo's most anticipated game looks like it might not be as close as we thought. After rumors that the game was going to miss the launch of the Nintendo Switch, more evidence has popped up, pointing to the game missing the new console's launch. Insider Laura Kate Dale, who has been right about a number of other pieces of information tweeted out that GameStop has officially changed their expected window for Breath of the Wild's release from Q1 2017, to a generic 2017. Basically, they have no idea when it's coming.
Here's the tweet:
The biggest thing here is that Breath of the Wild missing the Switch's release is likely to put a huge damper on sales. No doubt, it was Nintendo's goal from the get-go to launch the console alongside the game, and considering industry projections of sales into 10 million, the delay is going to put a huge damper on the hype. Nintendo is still trying to shake the image of not being able to release big games at a consistent rate, and not having Breath of the Wild to back them up won't help that.
That said, when Breath of the Wild does release, it's a Game of the Year contender, almost by default.
