We all know how these things go. Video game movies get announced or go into "production" which essentially means someone writes two pages for a script and it sits on computer for 6 years untouched. With that said, take everything I am about to say with a grain of salt.
Sources close to Variety report that the Price of Persia himself, Jake Gyllenhaal, is going to produce and star in a film adaptation of Ubisoft's hit multiplayer RPG, The Division. The film is still looking for a writer to write the film adaptation of the post-apocalyptic game.
The Division released to much success, becoming Ubisoft's best selling title and even claimed the record of best selling new IP, overtaking Bungie's Destiny.
This isn't the first Ubisoft film adaptation, however, and certainly not the first one with Jake Gyllenhaal. Back in 2010, Disney released the not so critically acclaimed (it boasts a strong 36% on Rotten Tomatoes) adaptation of Prince of Persia, titled Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The film starred Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, and Alfred Molina and was considered a case of Hollywood "white-washing".
The second adaptation is the upcoming Assassin's Creed film which has been in the works for many years. The film will star Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons and will not be a direct adaptation of any of the games but instead take place in the universe of the series. The film is set to release this December.
