Update: The rumor has been by a 'studio insider' who stated the following to The Wrap:
“There has been no additional photography to date on ‘Justice League,’ we have planned and will shoot additional pickups early summer. Additional photography has always been planned like most pictures in general but certainly for a tentpole of ‘Justice League’s’ size and scope.”
Before we begin this story, we're fully aware of the immense hatred towards DC movies. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and no, we aren't being paid by Marvel to say DC is bad. Those accusations are pretty stupid and we all just want good superhero movies, there are not many people who root for a movie to be bad. With all that said, let's get into the news story.
DC movies have had a lot of troubled developments. The biggest and most recent example of this was for Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad's script was written in a mere six weeks and the movie had several different versions edited together that told vastly different stories. The version we ended up getting was hated by many fans and critics which many hoped would cause DC and Warner Bros. to rethink their plans for future movies.
That may not exactly be the case. Just a few weeks after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, production began on Justice League, the big DC movie that will serve as their version of The Avengers. The crew quickly addressed concerns of the movie's tone and script following the criticisms of BvS stating the film will be lighter in tone and the movie's script will be handled with care.
A new rumor from Splash Report suggests that they're doing the exact opposite and Ben Affleck (who serves as an executive producer when not donning the cape and cowl) ordered a number of extensive script rewrites. It's possible the script was a mess and he felt that they could do better but it's certainly a bit concerning that a movie went into production with a script that wasn't up to par. Of course, script rewrites happen on tons of movies. It isn't uncommon but with the history of DC movies, it's something to keep in the back of your mind.
Additionally, since the film wrapped principal photography in October of 2016, the movie has had a number of reshoots. Reshoots are also very common as they're used to reshoot scenes that maybe weren't of the highest quality or they use them to add new scenes to the movie (a la Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Justice League's reshoots have been happening off and on since October and well into spring of this year.
The report also adds that by the time the movie finishes post production and releases in November of this year, Justice League will have essentially been "remade…twice.” The movie will reportedly continue to see more reshoots throughout the year. Again, this could all be for the better but Suicide Squad was in a similar position and well… we'll let you come to your own conclusions on that one.
Take all of this with a grain of salt as these are purely rumors that come from an anonymous source meaning absolutely none of this is official.
Justice League is set to hit theaters November 17th, 2017 but before that, we'll get one more DC film leading into the ensemble piece. Wonder Woman will be getting her first ever theatrical solo movie on June 2nd, 2017.
