We are only months away before Star Wars: The Force Awakens makes its release and the rumor focus has already shifted from the upcoming film to the planned spinoffs. We haven't heard much about the Boba Fett Star Wars film, but apparently Fantastic 4 director Josh Trank won't be the one directing it (of course we kind of knew that).
Jeff Sneider of 'The Wrap' took to his regularly scheduled podcast 'Meet the Movie Press' to start a new rumor for the standalone Boba Fett Star Wars film. According to Sneider, director F. Gary Gray (Fast & Furious 8, Straight Outta Compton) is not only being considered to direct the spinoff, but already has an actor in mind for the role.
Apparently, Michael B. Jordan is being considered for the role.
"I heard that F. Gary Gray, after Straight Outta Compton, was only considering two movies. One was Fast & Furious 8, and the other required meetings in San Francisco. That leaves literally two possibilities. The first, which is what I'm thinking that it was, was to possibly replace Josh Trank on the Boba Fett movie. I do think Boba Fett will be African-American. It's not that black people can only direct movies starring black people, or anything like that, don't get me wrong. But I just remember hearing somewhere that Michael B. Jordan was rumored for Boba Fett, and I think that F. Gary Gray would make a lot of sense. Disney has a huge diversity mandate, and Star Wars has been all white male directors so far. I'm telling you, they want some diversity."
There's no way to confirm this, as Disney hasn't been very upfront on the Boba Fett standalone. Even if the film does exist, it's hard to imagine when the film would even be taking place.
