The next installment in Activision's hugely popular Call of Duty franchise is reportedly called Call of Duty: Ghosts. The rumor comes via YouTube user Drift0r who claims a trusty subscriber — who is also an "insider of the Call of Duty machine" — has provided him with information regarding the game's announcement, gameplay features, and more.
Although technically not titled Modern Warfare 4, the story is believed to branch out of the Modern Warfare series, but move into a "different direction." The campaign is set in the future, but present-day weaponry will be used. This is because of a major plot point in the game that forces the characters to use weapons from the past. Following in the footsteps of Battlefield, Call of Duty: Ghosts will have destructive environments. While the destructive environments are going well in single-player, multiplayer is experiencing a few more problems.
In terms of multiplayer, Ghosts will allegedly feature dynamic loading screens. Rather than seeing the traditional countdown menu, players will seamlessly enter the game through rappelling form a helicopter or breaking a glass window to sneak into a map. Spec Ops has also been replaced with a new mode.
Player movement has also been changed a little bit. Although nothing has been said of the "dolphin dive," it's believed to be replaced with a new move will allow players to dash into sliding while shooting. Drift0r also says you'll be able to peek around corners and roll side-to-side while prone.
Another source has told Drift0r that Call of Duty: Ghosts will only launch on PC and next-gen consoles, like the PS4 and currently unannounced next Xbox.
If any of these rumors are true, we should find in early May. The same source told Drift0r that Activision has plans to unveil Call of Duty: Ghosts on or around May 1st, which is around the time Activision announced Black Ops 2 last year.
