Earlier in the year, we saw Microsoft toying with a reduced price for the Xbox One, putting it at $350 (instead of $400)– a price that hasn't changed since. This reduced price put the Xbox One in a more competitive battle with the PlayStation 4 which up until last month had been outselling the Xbox One in the U.S. on a regular basis.
Sony won't be laying around while Microsoft adopts a lower price for their current-gen console. Sony's retail loyalty site (a site where video game retailer employees visit to learn about upcoming products) has revealed that Sony will be dropping the price of the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4.
The retail loyalty site is giving the retail employees a chance at winning a PlayStation 4 and Vita (amongst other Sony products), in the contest's details – hidden in the rules of the contest new prices for the PS4 and Vita were listed. The PlayStation 4 is listed at $349 ($50 price drop) and the Vita is listed at $89 ($110 price drop). Whether or not there is a price drop is actually on the way has yet to be confirmed, treat this as rumor for now.
E3 is just around the corner, if there's a drop in price coming – that will be the time to announce it.
