Rumor: The new slim PS4 will phase out the current PS4 model entirely

Yesterday, we reported that a brand new slim PS4 has been manufactured and is out in the wild and in the hands of a few lucky people. The console appeared to be a very sleek, smaller version of the wildly popular console but we have little other to go off of at the moment.

A source at The Wall Street Journal has reported that Sony has cut production on the current PS4 in order to reduce inventory and make way for the new slimmed down model which will reportedly phase out the model that Sony has been using since 2013.

The source claims that some stores have run out of PS4's entirely and are unable to order more as production on the old model has ceased. “The white model was gone two weeks ago and we just sold our last black model in stock,” said the chief of the videogame floor at a major electronics store in Tokyo. “Our central purchasing department warned us we wouldn’t get any for now because the item is simply not in distribution channels.”

It sounds as if that Sony will be announcing and releasing the new slimmed PS4 at their press event in New York on September 7th. You can almost bet that Sony will be releasing the console on September 7th or the week of the event if these reports are true.

Sony is also set to debut the highly anticipated, upgraded PS4 which has gone by codename Neo at the PlayStation event on September 7th. Some high profile developers are also heavily rumored to bring some games to showcase the Neo's power.

We will keep you updated as the story develops.
