Rumor: The Nintendo Switch dock boosts game performance to 1080p resolution

About a month ago, Nintendo finally pulled back the curtain on the long-awaited/known NX, branding it the Nintendo Switch. Since then, not a whole lot has come out about the system, but that hasn't stopped some insiders from attempting to get Nintendo employees to spill some of their secret beans. Laura Kate Dale is one such insider and is known for her ability to leak all things Nintendo. That said, this is still unconfirmed by Nintendo so take it for what it is and insert salt grain cliche here.

One of the more interesting things she leaked today (and there are quite a few), was a report that says that the Switch's dock (which you use when you want to play the game on the TV) boosts the performance of the handheld. It was previously reported that the dock's standard resolution for gaming was 720p, which naturally got some gamers worried (myself included). However, Dale's report states that "when the system is connected to the dock by USB-C, the system's components will run at a higher clock speed to facilitate 1080p resolutions on the TV."

She also dives into details for what can be expected from the upcoming press event in New York on January 13th, 2017. Press members who attend the event "will be free to take the systems to a separate area of the event to play on sofas rather than the TV."

While it's still unconfirmed, the Nintendo Switch has been rumored to release on March 17th, 2016 and retail for £198.50 or $245.88 USD. We also may have to live without getting Nintendo most intriguing game at the Switch's launch as well, as it has also been rumored that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will miss the new console's launch.
