Rumor: There will be no pre-orders for the NES Classic Edition

If you've been looking to pre-order Nintendo's upcoming NES Classic Edition, you might have noticed that the ability to do so is nowhere to be found. According to a poster on NeoGAF (mollipen), claiming to have spoken directly with a Nintendo Rep at a hands-on event in Los Angeles, Nintendo will not be doing pre-orders for the device at all.

Here's the excerpt from the post:

Basically, I was at a recent hands-on event here in Los Angeles for upcoming Nintendo releases, and one of the things they were showing off was the NES Classic Edition. I specifically brought up the whole pre-order situation, and how I—speaking as a fan, not media—was really frustrated at the communication that had gone on about buying the device, and confusion over how or when consumers can pre-order or secure one. I was told by the Nintendo rep (with PR present) that Nintendo simply wasn't going to be doing preorders for the device, and that's it be a "buy it on day one" kind of thing.
The NES Classic Edition is an homage to the great accomplishments of Nintendo's past (something they sure aren't shy about doing). The console comes installed with 30 classic games including the original Super Mario Bros, the first Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong all in HD (at least as much HD as these games can go). The console will retail for $59.99 and launches next week on November 11th.
IMO, pre-orders are overrated anyway and more than likely you won't have any problems picking one up if you are indeed desperate enough to buy it on Day 1. If the NES Classic Edition does for some reason prove to be so outrageously popular that every gaming store in the world happens to run out of them, you can be sure that Nintendo will make more very soon.
