Rumor: Capcom layoffs ends unannounced project, limit Dead Rising 5

It is being reported that Capcom has laid off a “significant” portion of their staff in their Vancouver office, best known for Dead Rising 2, 3, and 4. The layoffs allegedly came as an attempt to streamline the studios’ production.

According to Kotaku, an individual familiar with Capcom has revealed that the Vancouver office saw around 50 members of staff get laid off. The source went on to detail the layoffs as a method of reorganizing the studio and streamlining the company. It was also brought around to manage the ‘over-scoped and under-staffed’ Dead Rising 5.

In addition to the layoffs and added limitations to Dead Rising 5, Capcom canceled an unannounced project. The game was allegedly a very early prototype that had not yet been greenlit by Capcom. It was intended to be a third-person action-adventure game set in an alternate reality of New York.

Some of the developers affected by the layoffs have taken to social media to comment on the situation. We hope that everyone affected by the layoffs finds their way onto new projects. Best wishes to all who are affected.
