Rumor: Warner Bros. knew Batman: Arkham Knight was broken on PC before release

When the conclusion to Batman Arkham series released on PC things did not go smoothly, Batman: Arkham Knight launched in such a state where it was left unplayable. The game was so broken that Warner Bros and Rocksteady suspended all sales of the PC version.

Prior to the game's release it was delayed by nearly a month, for undisclosed reasons. It looks as thought the delay was due to the developers being unprepared for developing a game on next-gen consoles.

Sources close to Warner Bros. and Rocksteady that acted as quality assurance (QA) testers on the game have come out to say that the PC version of the game was broken before it was released and Warner Bros. knew about it.

“I will say that it’s pretty rich for WB to act like they had no idea the game was in such a horrible state,” said one QA tester to Kotaku, who worked on the game. “It’s been like this for months and all the problems we see now were the exact same, unchanged, almost a year ago.”

“Getting it to work on consoles was impossible for months,” said the tester. “That’s part of why the game got delayed so many times, they were totally unprepared for how hard it was on next-gen consoles.”

The sources also suggest that Arkham Knight played at 720p on PC during testing, with the Batmobile posing issues for framerate and performance issues. These issues persisted through testing and into the game's release, as these were some of the top issues that were being reported by PC owners.

These rumors have not been verified as true, as Kotaku did not supply proof that their sources were legitimate. In hindsight, knowing what issues launched with the game and the delay it suffered fabricating something like this would not be difficult, but it would take a lot of time. Either way, it's 50/50 on this rumor.

There has been no official word from Warner Bros. on the subject, it should be noted that PC version of Arkham Knight was developed by Iron Galaxy Studios.

Iron Galaxy Studios has deferred us to Warner Bros for comment.
