Since the revealed of the sequel to 2013's Tomb Raider reboot, Rise of the Tomb Raider, it has been known that the game's exclusivity to Xbox consoles "has a duration." It wasn't long after we got our first look at Rise of the Tomb Raider gameplay that Sqaure Enix revealed the PC version of the game would release in "early 2016," with the PlayStation 4 version following in "Holiday 2016."
According to sources close to Square Enix, the PS4 version of the game was delayed to Holiday 2016 to avoid releasing near Uncharted 4. This source suggests that Square Enix had planned on releasing both the PS4 and PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider in early 2016, but the 'lackluster reception' the game had made Sqaure Enix renegotiate the release for the game to build 'anticipation.'.
Previous rumors suggested that the PS4 would be seeing the Tomb Raider sequel sometime in November 2016, but never revealed why the PC and PS4 version would be releasing so far apart. The very same rumor went on to say that Square Enix will be prepared to curb any "negative sentiment" for the game's late release by offering the game at a lower price on the PS4.
With previous rumors being corroborated by the announced late 2016 release for Rise of the Tomb Raider, we may very well see a reduced price for the game – all it will take is the community complaining.
