“What are you going to be doing later today when you get home after school?”
“Playing Nintendo.”
I remember being a kid, waking up in the morning and looking forward to playing Nintendo. I remember being in school and waiting for the bell to ring so I could go home and play Nintendo. Back then, there weren’t any Wiis, or PlayStation 3s, or Xbox 360s. There was Nintendo, and that was it.
Of course, the Super Nintendo quickly followed, and then the Nintendo 64, and so on. But back when I was four, five, and six-years-old, there was just Nintendo. Things were a lot simpler back then, and it seems they may be simple once more.
According to Game Informer, one of the major rumors surrounding Project Cafe’s name is that it will simply be called Nintendo. Not Nintendo Wii 2. Not Nintendo Wii HD. Nintendo. Of course, this is still a rumor, and we’ll have to wait to find out the system’s true name when Nintendo (the company) unveils it for the very first time tomorrow morning.
Personally, I could really get behind the name Nintendo. It’s simple, effective, and it harks back to the days when we were all “just playing Nintendo.”
