Between cannibals, humidity and killer sinkholes, Florida has developed a bit of a reputation as being an easy internet joke. However, the Sunshine State has two redeeming qualities- Publix chicken tender subs and theme parks.
While no news yet on Publix delivering their delicatessen witchcraft outside of the South, there are rumblings of a new theme park from Universal opening in Orange County and it’s said to be video game themed, with licensed attractions based on Blizzard and Nintendo franchises.
While it’s already been known for a few months that Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts inked a deal to introduce Mario characters (specifically Mario Kart) to their parks, the rumors of Pokemon, Zelda and Blizzard’s World of Warcraft are also beginning to crop up. The later makes since given the new Duncan Jone’s Warcraft movie is being released by Universal Studios.
Given their competitor, Disney’s, relationship with Star Wars, a video game themed amusement park would be a definite edge to Universal when it comes to vying for tourist dollars. A project like this would be several years off from cutting ribbon, but how much fun would it be to send your kid off to a cosplay boutique or be lazy at a water area full of Cheep Cheeps?
