RuneScape commemorates the 10 year anniversary of the Falador Massacre

To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the infamous Falador Massacre the RuneScape team has decided to let the event return to RuneScape for a limited time.

It has already been ten long years since it happened and to celebrate that a new servers has been opened in RuneScape, World 111, to let members relive the Falador Massacre but without the consequences that the original had.

For those not aware, the Falador Massacre was not something to take lightly. One player, Durial321, cheated himself to become better than everyone else and promptly killed everyone in Falador, making it the Falador Massacre.

The event will be in two stages to fully commemorate the Falador Massacre. First player will be "possessed" by Durial321, getting he gear and stats, and possessed player will "kill" other players just like Durial321 did, though killed players wont loose any gear. The second stage is a giant Durial321 boss fight where everyone takes up arms together to fight for Falador, one for all and one for all!

After the event a monument will be raised in Falador Park in memory of all those who dies and lost their gear to Durial321's massacre in Falador back in 2006.

The event begun yesterday and will go on until June 13 and if it gets popular enough it might be a happen again some time, and the developers said to keep an eye out for more community events this week. Looks like RuneScape players has a lot to look forward to, but the developers are hoping that it serves as both a fun event and a reminder of cheating:

The Falador Massacre is something that lives on in the memory of anyone who has ever been connected to RuneScape in quite an affectionate manner. However, it also stands a serious example of how unfair bug exploitation and cheating can be.

Cheating and glitch exploitation will not be tolerated in RuneScape even if the passage of time changes how we look at past events.

The RuneScape team knows that this will be a fun event but ends on a serious note condemning bug exploitation and cheating, a hot topic these days with games such as Destiny, The Division, and Overwatch all trying to find suitable ways to deal with exploiters and cheaters.
