There will be over 8000 seconds in The Force Awakens, according to Abrams. And while I now fret that I will be in the theater and finding myself counting Mississippis while trying to soak in the continuation of my childhood, it is good knowing that 2 hours and 15 minutes feels like a solid amount of time to introduce the first part of a new trilogy without the danger of it running into dragging feet territory.
It’s also a similar amount of time for the original trilogies (2 hours 7 minutes to 2 hours, 20 minutes), which managed to deliver a ton of coherent narrative and leave plenty of time for badass action scenes and saucy droids.
Star Wars The Force Awakens releases on December 18th. If you can still find tickets.
