Ryan Reynolds to voice Pikachu in Detective Pikachu

Ryan Reynolds has rocketed himself into the spotlight with his iterations of Deadpool (both) and it appears as though he has no intentions of leaving that spotlight anytime soon. While we await the release of Deadpool 2, Reynolds has signed up to be the voice of the lovable yellow electric mouse from Pokemon in the upcoming Detective Pikachu.

That's right, the previously unvoiced electric mammal is getting a voice and it's definitely not the same voice from the new Pokemon movie. Reynolds will be the voice of Detective Pikachu as he works with Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton to solve the crime of who kidnapped Smith's father.

It's been detailed that Reynolds will be filming his role in motion capture… the question is… will he be yelling Pikachu? Other choices for the role were reported to be Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson.

Detective Pikachu movie will begin filming in January and has no reported release date.
