GSC Games World released a brand-new teaser trailer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. While very brief, the video actually shows in-engine footage. Meaning, while not real gameplay, it’s the closest to it. Check out the teaser trailer here!
We wouldn’t really hold it against you if the name S.T.A.L.K.E.R. didn’t mean anything to you. It has been well over a decade already since the last entry in the original trilogy launched, after all. Yes, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat launched way back in 2009.
Furthermore, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games were always firmly PC-exclusive. All the more reason to be excited for the return of the cult franchise. Since S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 also targets the Xbox Series X|S alongside PC.
Sadly, we still don’t have a release date for the game, yet. Ukrainian developer GSC Game World insists on developing the game before setting up any dates. Probably the wise decision when you consider how many games’ demise ended up being numerous delays and still unfinished releases.
Nonetheless, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 looks promising for now. And that’s despite the fact that both the game and studio undergone massive hardships. The true sequel was originally canceled way back in 2012. Two years after its announcement.
Even worse, GSC Game World themselves were dissolved around the same time. This led to a mass exodus of the talent behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise. Many of whom found a new home at 4A Games. The creators of the Metro series.
As such, it’s going to be interesting whether the GSC Game World of today will be able to deliver a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 that lives up to fan expectations. The jump from a proprietary game engine to the Unreal Engine will surely aid the team in this case.
In the end, GSC Game World promises the biggest seamless open-world to date. A tall order, no doubt. With more media coming out more frequently, we hope 2021 will be a good year for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
